The CentraSight treatment is for people who have advanced forms of age-related macular degeneration.

To put the telescope in, a surgeon takes out the eye's natural lens and replaces it with the telescope.

After the surgery, the patients have to work on how to use the new vision. That includes just sitting still or moving around.

One of the surgeons who is doing the procedure, Dr. Stark Johnson, visited 4 O'clock at 9NEWS on Friday. To hear more about the procedure, watch the video above or visit http://www.centrasight.com/treatment_process.
