Generations past say the recognition and understanding from today's generation means a lot.
That's why Grant Allen was such a special guest.
He honored veterans in a 5th grade writing assignment he shared Saturday.
"Some say in the real world there are no Superman or Batmans," Allen said as he read part of his essay. "They are mistaken. We do have super heroes in our country. They are known as the United States Armed forces. They are real super heroes. They have given their lives to us, for a time."
Both of Allen's grandfathers served. One served in the Army, the other in the Navy.
"It makes us feel great," Mike Benowitz said. "It gives us hope that there is hope for this great country of ours on veteran's day."
