Xcel asked natural gas customers in Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, Dillon, Silverthorne and Frisco to significantly reduce their natural-gas usage by turning their thermostats down to 60 degrees or as low as comfortably and safely tolerable.

Customers were asked to not use natural-gas appliances such as fireplaces, gas-fired hot tubs and dryers or appliances that use hot water, such as clothes washers and dishwashers.

Michelle Aguayo, a spokesperson for Xcel, said a seam in a pipeline serving Summit County customers failed Sunday afternoon.

As of 8 a.m. Xcel had implemented two electrical outages to help reduce the demand for natural gas and to help speed up repairs.

At noon, Xcel had made all the repairs necessary.

Aguayo said after repairs were complete, the seam had to be inspected and the line had to be re-pressurized.

Xcel issued the following statement to affected customers originally:

"We sincerely apologize for this impact to your utility service, and thank you for your support during this situation."
