Larry Gomez appeared in a Denver courtroom Tuesday. He was captured Friday night after a car chase and crash. Police shot him as he ran from the crash scene.
"[He's] a good human being. That's my nephew," Gomez's aunt Liz Martinez said. "We love him and we're supporting him. We're family."
Gomez admitted to 9NEWS he has been on the run from police for violating his parole.
Gomez faces charges in Denver of aggravated motor vehicle theft and attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.
His family in court Tuesday had a hard time dealing with what happened.
"Seeing him like that, it hurts," Martinez said. "People are already judging him for what he's doing. He didn't do nothing."
Denver and Westminster police say they have the right man. Gomez is expected to be formally charged next week.
