As a part of World AIDS Day, Guerra is encouraging people who have HIV to be open about it with their doctors.

"Well you know during season eight of Project Runway, I revealed my HIV-positive status that I have been keeping a secret for 10 years. Since that episode aired, I've been overwhelmed by the positive support and feedback. So I thought I can use this visibility to really bring awareness to such an important issue which is HIV/AIDS. So I've teamed up with Merck on a campaign called 'I Design,' and 'I Design is really a campaign that encourages people living with HIV like I am to take a tailored approach to their treatment, and we really encourage these people living with HIV to have a open conversation with their doctor and as you know, people are all different and your treatment plan should reflect that," Guerra said.

Mongo also talked about the dress he designed for World AIDS Day.

"So this dress, I designed in honor of World Aids Day. We had the opportunity with the campaign to go to the US conference on AIDS in Las Vegas a couple months ago and we had this community project which was this mural and we really encouraged the participants to apply beautiful color and ... to kind of have a visual conversation and share their story and their journey of living with HIV. From that, after the three days, I took that mural kind of as my muse to create this address. I can tell you, when I started designing the dress I started designing this print that was very black and white and literal, and I started reflecting on how beautiful these stories that these participants had shared with me. I wanted to loosen it up a little bit and not make it so black and white. So I wanted to make this beautiful dress that would honor the people in the HIV community for World AIDS Day," Mongo said.
