A few people opposing hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," disrupted EnCana Oil and Gas representative Wendy Wiedenbeck as she testified during a Boulder County Commissioners meeting on regulating gas development.

Before public comment began, Wiedenbeck had requested a security escort from the building and back to her car following her testimony. A group of fracking opponents surrounded and followed her several blocks, shouting "we have spoken, now get out of our county!"

The Boulder County Board of Commissioners called the incident "shameful" and said everyone should feel safe at public meetings.

The board said the following in a statement released Wednesday:

"As a county, we have a long history of respecting the First Amendment rights of all, and as a Board we greatly respect and appreciate the opinions and information which was brought forth at the hearing and for the respect and conduct of the majority of attendees once the hearing was underway."

The board plans to remove anyone from future meetings who does not "participate in civil discourse" or those who threaten the safety of others.
