Lakewood police fear the man could strike again.
A mom had just dropped her kids off at school and was driving home along the 9000 block of West Dartmouth Place Monday morning.
At around 8:05 a.m., a man bumped into her car and signaled her to pull over.
Lakewood police spokesman Steve Davis says she got out of her vehicle to check the damage and that is when police say the man attacked and sexually assaulted her.
"He grabbed her, pinned her up against the vehicle, and sexually assaulted her," Davis said.
Davis says the suspect tried forcing the woman to get into his car but she used her keys to fight back, hitting the man in his face before escaping.
Davis says the man was driving a gold car, similar to an early '90s model Plymouth Laser.
It had no front license plate, a Colorado plate on the rear, a cracked front windshield, and old body damage on the front driver's side.
That model car was also sold as a Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eagle Talon, with only minor cosmetic differences.
"She tells us he was very dirty. [He has] medium length blond hair but very dirty; a lot of facial acne. His teeth were very decayed," Davis said.
Davis says the man wore a blue baseball cap, purple jersey, white long sleeve shirt under the jersey, and baggy blue jeans at the time of the attack.
Most troubling to police is the man's willingness to attack in daylight, along a pretty busy street.
"That tells me this is someone who is very desperate and very dangerous," Davis said.
Heidi Bauer, who lives near the scene of the sexual assault, is keeping a much closer eye on her 17-year-old daughter Jenii.
"It's scary and you wouldn't think it would be happening right here," Bauer said. "I have been out every morning watching her get in the car and go to school."
Bauer is teaching her daughter how to fight off an attacker just in case he comes back to their street looking for his next target.
"I do have mace in the car now," said Jenii Bauer. "It stops your heart a little bit. The scariest part is that it could happen to anybody at anytime."
