One of the rarest beers in the world brewed by reclusive Trappist monks was up for sale in Fort Collins Friday and it was gone in minutes.
"If we keep doing this, we won't do it [sell the beer]. We'll just shut it down and ship it back," one store official told the crowd who began pushing and shoving as Wilbur's Total Beverage Wine & Spirits opened its doors.
In need of funds for a renovation, the Abbey of Saint Sixtus of Westvleteren released, for the first time in the U.S., a limited amount of its Westvleteren 12 beer.
Wilbur's Total Beverage Wine & Spirits, at 2201 S. College Ave., was selected among a handful of liquor stores to offer the rare beer that many hail the best in the world.
On Friday morning, people from Kansas to Texas lined up to get some of the beer.
Wilbur's Total Beverage Wine & Spirits workers told 9NEWS Thursday night that more than a thousand calls came from people all over the world - all asking about the sale.
It's normally only sold by appointment and the monks say this may be the only time they do this kind of sale.
For those lucky enough to score a six-pack, the cost was $85.
