Emily Weikert, 25, was found dead with a gunshot wound to her back. Officers are still trying to confirm who killed this young woman. They believe it may be her co-worker who police say was found dead inside his apartment in the Denver Tech Center.
The SWAT was on scene since 1:30 p.m. Thursday. They had two persons of interest. One was cooperating with police, and the other was Robert Lewis who was found dead at the Carriage Place Apartments off of Ulster Street and Union Avenue.
He worked with Emily at CO BANK and was fired for harassing her a few weeks ago. The SWAT team wanted to bring him in for questioning. The Denver SWAT Team evacuated part of Lewis' apartment complex while they worked to get him out. When police got a search warrant at around 5 p.m., they were able to blow down the door with explosives and go in.That is when police found Lewis dead inside. He had a single gunshot wound to his head which appeared to be self-inflicted.
There were several crime scenes in this case. The first was at the Promenade Apartments where Weikert was found shot to death inside the parking garage. Police received information that lead them to believe their were two persons of interest. One led them to the Belleview light-rail station where they found a green Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was the vehicle they were looking for.
They contacted the owner, who police say has been cooperative. He was questioned, and police say he is not believed to be connected with Weikert's murder.
At this point, police think Lewis was the only person of interest.
