A Kodak/Carestream employee saw a tire sticking out from the broken ice at the pond near the company campus, pulled over and jumped into the water to help pull the Evans woman, 22, from the car, said firefighters with Windsor-Severance Fire Rescue.

The crash happened around 5 p.m., just after the sun set and roads across Northern Colorado turned slippery.

"The passenger compartment was completely under water," said Windsor-Severance Fire Rescue spokesman Todd Vess. "He saw her struggling to get out the back of the car and got into the water and helped her out."

The woman was transported to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. Hospital staff this morning said she was treated in the emergency department last night but was no longer a patient.
