"Yeah, no binoculars needed," Ortiz said.

The 12-year-old asked his mom about going to the inauguration as a birthday gift a few months ago. But Rivas didn't find out about the tickets until last week.

"When I gave it to him he was literally shaking for about an hour. His teeth were chattering, he was so excited," Rivas said.

Ortiz admits a lot of his friends don't understand why he's going to DC. But the gravity of the event is definitely not lost on him.

"Its history, I like history and it's a historical event and it's the first African American President so it's going to be fun."
