Police say Zach Conley, 19, was walking around the Walmart Supercenter east of Old Town with a rifle at about 3:30 p.m. He wasn't breaking any laws, but his actions alarmed store patrons, who called police.
Conley told police that he was simply exercising his right to openly carry a legally owned rifle. Conley was asked by police to consider how his actions might alarm other people.
"Officers told him they respected his Second Amendment rights and asked him to look at how his behavior may cause alarm for others especially in light of recent events," Fort Collins police spokeswoman Rita Davis said.
Conley could not be reached Wednesday.
