KUSA - Longmont Police arrested a teenager after a confusing situation Wednesday morning involving a shotgun and schools on lockout.
According to Longmont Police, a 16-year-old stole a family shotgun a couple of days ago. His father saw him on Wednesday with the gun at Loumiller Park.
Longmont High School, Longs Peak Middle School and Mountain View Elementary School were placed on lockout around noon as the police investigated the teen.
The lockout was lifted less than an hour later, even though police could not find the teen until closer to 1:45 p.m.
Police located the shotgun, which was hidden at a friend's house in the 1400 block of Stuart Street, around 3 p.m.
Just before 4 p.m., the teen was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and misdemeanor theft. He was sent to Boulder County Juvenile Detention Center.
