LAKEWOOD - Three people were taken to the hospital Saturday night with burn injuries after a shed exploded and one other person checked in afterwards. They were in the yard when it happened.
Crews from the West Metro Fire Department responded to the 1600 block of South Ammons just before 9 p.m. Neighbors say the explosion shook their homes.
"It was huge. I mean huge. We were kind of confused as to what it could be. We got hardwood if you can imagine jumping up and stomping on it as hard as you could that's kind of what we heard," neighbor Nick Retzlaff said.
Firefighters say two people were transported to University Hospital. The third victim is at St. Anthony Central Medical Center.
All victims are in their 20s and suffering from what's described as minor to severe burns. A hazardous materials crew responded to the scene, but there is no danger to the public. Firefighters say several container of unknown chemicals remain in the shed.
Lakewood Police are also investigating. Narcotics officers were called to the scene. Investigators say it was not a meth lab, but drug activity was involved.
