KUSA - A pediatric cardiologist in Arizona apologized after posting a tweet that mocked a Denver Post reporter who lost a friend in the Aurora theater shooting.
Denver Post sportswriter Adrian Dater retweeted the comments that appear to have been in response to something he wrote about the Phoenix Coyotes hockey team.
"Go catch a movie in Aurora" wrote the Twitter user Baby Doc Scott. "Join Jessica for all I care."
The Tweet is referring to Jessica Ghawi, an aspiring journalist and friend of Dater's. She was killed inside the theater.
9NEWS called Dr. Scott Schnee at Banner Health in Phoenix to confirm it was his account and that he sent the Tweets in question. He did not respond. The Twitter account is now disabled.
Jessica Ghawi's mother Tweeted to the pediatric cardiologist: "Does he know Jessie had a heart condition? Doctor, I would suggest you heal yours."
Banner Health issued a statement on Wednesday saying "While, we can't discuss employee matters publicly, Dr. Schnee's apology to Mr. Dater (below) was the right thing to do:"
Last night I tweeted unconscionable statements to you for which I owe an apology not only to you but to anyone who has read these tweets via subsequent news coverage or in numerous social media channels. I am especially sorry to those whose loved ones or friends were victims in the horrible massacre in the Aurora theater. I can offer no excuse. I can only express my sincerest and heart-felt apologies for my poor judgment that has offended so many.
