AURORA - An Aurora medical company says its leading the way when it comes to producing a vaccine for the new strain of the Avian Flu.
Scientists at Greffex believe they've created the first comprehensive vaccine for H7N9 avian influenza.
The first cases of it were reported earlier this year in China. About 20 percent of the people infected with the virus died.
The company says it created a vaccine less than a month after receiving the genetic makeup of the virus. They're able to make it so fast because of their unique "plug and play" method of creating vaccines.
While they've created the vaccine, safety tests will be conducted over the next 2 to 3 months. After that, clinical trials can begin, if it's deemed safe, it will then be available for mass production.
