FORT COLLINS - Police are warning residents to lock their doors after two separate homes along a Fort Collins street have been broken into and had gas left on inside.
The two incidents come on the heels of burglaries and other crimes reported in the north Fort Collins neighborhood.
"Quite terrifying," said a woman whose gas was left on when she returned home from work.
She didn't want to be identified but says she always locks her doors.
"When I realized my deadbolt was unlocked, [I] sort of started panicking," she said.
She saw blue flames coming from her stove top.
"It's unnerving for those that it's happening to. It's creepy," said Rita Davis with the Fort Collins Police Department.
Other people around the neighborhood have reported someone coming into their home and using the shower as well as eating some food in the kitchen.
"In almost the last year, there have been 22 incidents reported in their neighborhood," Davis said
Many incidents involved people who did not lock their doors, Davis said. She encourages everyone to keep their doors locked and their windows closed, even as the weather warms up and it becomes tempting to leave them open.
