DENVER (AP) - Denver prosecutors have charged a man suspected in the kidnapping and rape of a 14-year-old girl in 1995.
The Denver District Attorney's office said Tuesday that new DNA technology led investigators to a break in the case. Prosecutors have charged 40-year-old Markie Lee Peoples with kidnapping and sexual assault on a child.
Prosecutors allege the crime happened after Peoples offered the victim and her friends a car ride in March 1995. Investigators were unable to solve the case then. They first tried using DNA testing to solve the crime in 2004 but couldn't identify a suspect.
Investigators reviewed the case again in June and got a match for a suspect earlier this month.
Peoples is free on $50,000 bail and due in court on Nov. 27 for a preliminary hearing.
