BOULDER - A Boulder brewery's foretelling AFC Championship ale "Brett on the Broncos" is not something the National Football League wants to put a bet on.
The NFL's legal team called an audible Thursday and slapped West Flanders Brewing with a cease and desist order. The order claims the brewery was improperly using the name and likeness of the Denver Broncos and AFC name for promotional purposes.
"Much to our surprise, we've just received a cease & desist letter from the legal department of the National Football League regarding our new Brett On the Broncos beer," West Flanders Brewery said in a statement.
The cease and desist letter states the brewery is "engaging in unauthorized promotional use of the NFL Marks (including inter alia, the AFC word mark and the Denver Broncos word mark and color combination) in connection with the promotion of your business."
The brewery says they have put the kibosh on their logo and are asking fans on their Facebook page for new name suggestions.
One fan suggested a Manning audible: "Omaha, Omaha." Another fan suggested a still foretelling name: "SuperBeer Bound."
