DENVER (AP) - The judge in the Colorado theater shooting case says jurors will be informed that the state executes prisoners by lethal injection, but will be told nothing else about how the death penalty is carried out.

In a ruling made public Monday, the judge granted a prosecution motion to limit what jurors are told about executions if defendant James Holmes is convicted.

The judge cited other court rulings that arguments about whether execution is cruel and unusual are outside the scope of the jury during a trial's punishment phase.

Holmes faces multiple counts of murder and attempted murder. He's accused of killing 12 people and injuring 70 in a Denver-area movie theater in July 2012.

Holmes pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
