Walker Field is now Grand Junction Regional Airport.
Airport Authority board members voted unanimously last night to change the name of the facility, which has operated as Walker Field for more than six decades.
The board also changed its own name to the Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority.
The airport had been named for Walter Walker, former publisher of The Daily Sentinel newspaper from 1911 to 1956.
Supporters of the name change say it's a good time to make the change, since the airport is undergoing a $20 million remodeling project, $700,000 of which will pay for new signage.
Critics say changing the name serves little purpose.
The name change takes effect immediately.
