DENVER - Tuesday was a day without pay for more than 15,000 state employees due to a mandatory furlough day. Many are unhappy about it and voiced their concerns at the State Capitol.
- State offices closed Tuesday

State employees were joined by health and education advocates and church and community leaders for the rally.

They were upset about the mandatory furlough days and the state's latest budget cuts in an effort to battle a $320 million shortfall.

The governor's office estimates about 15,500 employees were kept home from work on Tuesday due to the furlough.

While most state offices were closed, not all state workers were affected.

Labor department employees were on the job to help with unemployment benefits. State troopers and dispatchers were also on duty, as were all state court employees.

Gov. Bill Ritter is also returning four days of his own pay.

There are three other mandatory furlough days set for state employees: Oct. 9, Nov. 27 and Dec. 31.
