STERLING (AP) - Two of the five full-time positions at North Sterling State Park have been cut and one campground is closing because of a budget shortfall.
Colorado State Parks said Monday the cuts and higher fees are aimed at closing a $3 million budget gap.
The Chimney View Campground will close Oct. 1 and may not reopen. The Elks Campground at North Sterling will remain open year-round.
Besides the reductions, the park will hire fewer temporary workers next summer.
The park is 10 miles north of Sterling and 115 miles northeast of Denver.
Fee increases approved by the state parks board last week include $2 more per night for camping, $2 more for reservations and increases ranging from $10 to $25 for boat registrations, depending on the size of the boat. The increases will take effect Jan. 1.
Daily entrance fees and annual passes for state parks will stay the same.
