They're not quite comparing Dairy Queen to a crack house, but they insist foods including ice cream can be addictive.
As far as our brain's wiring is concerned: pleasure is pleasure. With drugs, over time, addicts receive less and less pleasure from the same amount. They then crave more of the drug to reach the same pleasure point that they remember experiencing before.
The Oregon Research Institute recently conducted a study where they fed kids ice cream and saw a similar result.
The researchers scanned the kids' brains when they drank a milkshake.
The children who ate the most ice cream over the previous weeks leading up to the study, had less activity in the pleasure centers of their brains.
The researchers say this is what can lead to obesity.
