Now at 15 years old, the Golden High School sophomore is on the fast track to taking his gymnastics to the Olympic level, "Somehow without knowing much about the sport, we recognized a child with an uncommon talent and sacrificed to allow him to succeed," said Yul's father, Shaw Moldauer.
Yul has moved around to different gyms as he's become more advanced. He currently trains every day of the week at '5280 Gymnastics' along with most Saturday mornings. In all, Yul trains about 17 hours each week.
During the Summer, Yul came in second place "All Around" at the Visa National Championships.
Yul is at the top of his age group in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic program. The next opportunity after the JO program is to land in the elite or senior gymnastics program. That is the group from which Olympians are chosen from.
Yul is humble yet well aware of how he is being noticed already by national coaches and collegiate scouts.
"One of the recruiters was at 5280 looking at graduating seniors and asked if 'we had any boys who had skills like him' (pointing at Yul)."
Yul doesn't compare himself to any other gymnast. He is focused solely on what he brings to the gym floor.
"He does not seem to really be competing against the other kids. He is pushing himself. "
That challenge is fun for Yul and not a source of stress.
