The Brussels Beer Challenge, announced exactly one year ago, promotes quality beer while encouraging a spirit of competition.
The first edition will be held in Brussels and then travel around the world, capturing its international scope.
Judges will have to choose the top 500 beers presented by 16 countries.
The tasting panel includes two independent women experts from the U.S., Lisa Morrison and Lucy Saunders.
"You're trying to identify those flavors and make sure that they really are what that style is supposed to be," Morrison, a beer author and journalist, said. "Then you kind of put it all together and give it a score."
The prizes include a gold, silver and bronze medal, not to mention the international recognition each winning beer will get. The winners will be announced Sunday.
