USA TODAY - I know many of you would be devastated if you missed it, so I'm just doing my journalistic duty by reminding you that International Talk Like a Pirate Day is Thursday.
The holiday, which has been running for more than a decade now, encourages people all over the world to engage in pirate-speak. Phrases like "Ahoy, matey!" and "Drink up, me hearties!" are encouraged, and the word "Arrrr!" is an absolute necessity.
Oddly enough, on Thursday, Krispy Kreme will celebrate the holiday by giving a free glazed donut to anyone who talks like a pirate. Dress like a pirate, and you'll nab a dozen free donuts. (For details, go to krispykreme.com/pirate.)
Need a little help with the lingo? Talk Like a Pirate Day's official site offers a guide to pirate vocabulary, as well as pirate games, merch and info about the holiday's origin. Mango Languages is also offering a free course in how to speak pirate.
Good luck with your preparation! If you feel so inspired, send me Vine/Instagram/whatever video of yourself talking like a pirate (via Twitter or firstname.lastname@example.org), and I may share it on the blog tomorrow.
The 9NEWS Morning team tried their hand (or shall we say hook?) at talking like a pirate, and this is what we got:
