Nov. 22, 1989: Citizens and city officials gathered for the groundbreaking of Denver's new airport. Bonds for the $4.9 billion project are still being paid off. DIA opened on Feb. 28, 1995. The airport property includes 53-square miles of wide open land northeast of Denver.

1989 - Die Hard 2 crew hits Denver

January, 1989: Hollywood heads to Denver to film the sequel to the box office hit Die Hard. The movie Die Hard 2, once again starring Bruce Willis, was shot at DIA's prequel, Stapleton Airport. 9NEWS previews the impact of a major motion picture crew arriving in the city.

1988 - Halloween Mall Crawl

October 1988: It was an annual outdoor Halloween party on the Pearl Street Mall. But the popular Boulder tradition was cancelled after it started getting rowdy, and then turned violent. 9News photojournalist Dave Delozier was there in 1988 when fights broke out up and down the mall.
