Arvada Police say the man, 34-year-old Michael Julio Duran, surrendered after a SWAT unit spent much of the afternoon talking to him.

Olde Wadsworth Boulevard was closed between Grandview and 57th Avenue, and three area schools were on a modified lockdown during the standoff.

Arvada Police say it's believed Duran verbally threatened an employee at a business in Olde Town earlier Wednesday afternoon, then left. Police say Duran was armed with a weapon similar to a pitchfork.

St. Anne School, Arvada Middle and Lawrence Elementary were on a modified lockdown. Students were released to their parents, and buses were operating, but students were not allowed to walk home.

Police say there were no hostages involved.

Duran faces charges of felony menacing and refusal to leave premises upon lawful order.
