Loveland announced on Tuesday afternoon that Chair 1 will start up at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
The ski area started making snow in preparation for the opening day on Sept. 21.
Each year, Loveland and Arapahoe Basin race to be the first ski area to open.
Loveland says Wednesday marks its earliest opening day in 40 years.
A-Basin said on Tuesday it would start operations at 9 a.m. on Friday.
It says this is the earliest opening day in the ski area's history.
"Skiers and riders have been waiting all summer for this day and we are anxious to fire up the lifts," Loveland Director of Business Operations Rob Goodell said in a statement.
Loveland is giving skiers and snowboarders access to a top-to-bottom run via Chair 1.
