The lead plaintiff, Taylor Lobato, now 22-years-old and an undergraduate student at the University of Denver, has been involved with the case since 2004.
Proceedings are in their third week, and the trial is expected to last for more than a month.
The allegations focus on state education funding and alleges that the state requires too much from schools while providing inadequate funds and resources. The trial also alleges that Colorado education funding violates two state Constitutional clauses.
