More than 70 homes were put on pre-evacuation notice Thursday night. Those homes were just east of Eby Creek Road and were in the Castle Peak Ranch area.

A number of small spot fires burning outside of the containment area are being managed. Fire crews are still patrolling Eby Creek Road, and an Eagle Fire engine crew is looking south of Eagle for signs of additional smoke and fire. A federal fire detection aircraft has been requested to assist with fire spotting.

The fire was reported around 6 p.m. on Thursday. It has burned 8 acres. The fire is 50 percent contained and is not expected to grow.

The cause of the fire is lightning.
