Does windshield chip repair really work?

A very large chunk of gravel bounced out of a nearby truck and chipped my windshield on the passenger side. The chip was large, about as big as two silver dollars and it cracked out about an inch in all directions. I was worried that this chip might call for a complete windshield replacement. Luckily, it was repaired for $30 and looks almost as good as new.

I got online and searched for windshield chip repair in Denver and got thousands of results. I called around, got the lowest quote and went to see him on a Saturday morning. There was no line and he only took about an hour to fix the chip. According to my repairman, the process includes injecting a resin into the damaged area and when that area has been completely filled an ultraviolet light is applied which cures the resin. This process does not harm the structural integrity of the windshield.

I can still see small lines in the windshield where the chip was repaired but overall it is much better. I had always been a little hesitant to try the process because it seems almost impossible to fill a crack, but I have been convinced!
