LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) - The world's biggest rubber band ball is now in the hands of Ripley's Believe it or Not, for eventual display in a museum.
A crane and a flatbed truck have taken the 9,000 pound, 6-foot 7-inch ball from the home of its creator, Joel Waul, in Lauderhill, Fla. Waul says it was a little sad watching it go, but says he knows thousands will now see it and wonder, "What was that guy thinking?"
Waul began his ball six years ago using hair bands and then larger rubber bands. As it grew, he got free shipments from rubber band manufacturers. It was declared the world's largest rubber band ball by the Guinness Book of World Records last year.
Waul was paid for his creation, but no word how much.
