FORT MYERS, Fla. - Alone and unarmed, a 60-year-old Florida man was able to scare off two burglars breaking into his home.

Gordon Doane says he got some help from an unlikely source when a would-be burglar broke into his home.

Doane was taking a shower inside the home when his dogs started barking. He knew quickly that something was not right.

"They were barking in the other part of the house and kept it up and finally the smaller dog came into the shower with me and started pulling on my leg," he said.

Doane got out of the shower to see what was causing the dogs to bark so much when, in nothing but his birthday suit, he came face-to-face with an intruder holding a crowbar.

"I came around here and he was standing right there," he said. "Immediately I saw the pad and I thought I have to push the panic button."

When he reached for the house alarm, the burglar got spooked. Doane watched as the man inside his home, as well as a second person, took off in a black SUV.

Doane says he thinks this break-in was months in the making. About six months ago, he saw a similar, possibly the same, SUV just sitting in his driveway.

"I think they had scoped it out," he said.

The men left Doane's home empty handed, in large part, thanks to his dogs.

Coincidentally he says, the dog that dragged him from the shower is a new addition. He just got her two weeks ago.

"And she ended up being my lifesaver," Doane said.
