A 9NEWS viewer caught the mistake in a blog entry on the USDA's Web site. The entry encourages children to exercise more as part of the agency's partnership with the NFL, through the "Fuel Up to Play 60" program.
The blog reads, "Childhood obesity is one of the greatest public health crises facing the United States and the USDA is making every effort to make sure that today's children are the first American generation to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents."
The USDA says it was just a simple typo. The writer meant to say that the agency is trying to make sure today's children are not the first American generation to have a shorter life expectancy, because of obesity. A spokesperson says they plan to fix the mistake as soon as possible.
