Steamboat Springs Police arrested Nathaniel Cameron Marshall after a 9NEWS viewer saw the story last Thursday and called investigators.

"Because of the news story, his employer at the time saw the story [and] the picture [and] said, 'Oh my God, I know this guy, he works for me,'" Det. Nick Bosick with Steamboat Police said.

Bosick told 9NEWS that Marshall was working as an independent contractor for a company that delivered auto parts to various dealerships. Bosick says the employer called Steamboat PD, and a sergeant got a hold of him at home to tell him about Marshall's whereabouts. Bosick arranged Aurora Police pick up Marshall Friday morning.

Marshall was arrested and taken to the Routt County Jail. He posted his $5,000 bond Friday night, according to Bosick.

On March 17, 9NEWS spoke to Boris Umanskiy who tried to rent a Steamboat Springs condo the weekend of March 12. Umanskiy said he found a Craigslist ad from Marshall offering a condo in The Antlers.

Umanskiy said his friends paid Marshall $250 for the place, but they arrived at the condo and they learned it wasn't for rent; it was for sale.

Marshall agreed to cooperate with investigators and promised to help identify victims who've not come forward so they can get their money back.

When asked why Marshall pulled the scam, Bosick said, "he's currently facing expensive medical bills, and he needed to make some money."

The 39-year-old is facing charges of criminal impersonation and a computer crime.
