A bottle of Veuve Clicquot was found in a shipwreck discovered in July of last year.

The ship went down between 1825 and 1830 and the champagne is believed to be almost 200 years old.

An unidentified Asian buyer shelled out $43,560 dollars for the bubbly. He bought the two bottles for a total of $78,235. The second bottle was Juglar champagne.
Both are believed to be the oldest examples of their respective brands.

The champagne isn't the most expensive ever sold, it's the most expensive ever auctioned.

Proceeds will be donated to charitable causes like maintaining the environment of the Baltic Sea and maritime history.

A total of 145 bottles were salvaged from the shipwreck.
