According to Ron Beall, owner of Scales and Trails in Lakewood, someone walked into his pet store on Friday Oct. 26, and stole the store's lizard. Beall has the surveillance video to prove it.
On the video, Beall says the suspect takes Grumpy right out of his tank, puts him under his shirt, and proceeds to pay for some other items at the register. An employee at the reptile store noticed Grumpy was missing about an hour later.
Beall filed a report with Lakewood Police Friday.
Since the Gila monster is a venomous lizard, the suspect could be in for even more trouble than he bargained for. If bitten, Beal says he would likely need to go to the hospital.
Beall reached out to 9NEWS because Grumpy is sick and needs specialized medication from a veterinary technician. The lizard cannot eat on its own and must be force fed.
If you know anything about the missing reptile, call Lakewood Police at (303) 987-7111.
