Spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Jacki Kelley told 9NEWS Jarrett Stoner was seen assaulting a woman in a U-Haul at about 11:15 a.m. When deputies arrived, the truck was gone.

A short time later, the U-Haul truck was spotted in the Morrison area. It then returned to south Jefferson County where deputies pulled it over. The assaulted woman got out of the truck at which point police say Stoner got behind the wheel and drove off.

Police say Stoner rammed a deputy's patrol car trying to get away. The deputy wasn't hurt.

Deputies say stoner ended up on foot and tried to steal a bucket truck from a nearby construction area. The construction workers wouldn't budge, Kelley said. They held Stoner down until police arrived.

He's been booked at the Jefferson County jail on multiple charges. It's not clear if the woman in the stolen U-Haul will face charges as well.

Stoner has a long history of crime, including domestic violence, vehicle theft and a parole violation after being released from prison.
