By comparison, activations last Christmas were just under 7 million, marking a 2.5-times increase for 2012.
Flurry, an app-analytics platform that tracks such data, released news of the record-setting activations on Friday.
The report went on to say more tablets were activated than smartphones. The iPad, iPad Mini and Kindle Fire HD accounted for over half of the activations on Christmas Day.
According to the report, along with activations, app downloads also spiked on Christmas Day - more than 328 million were downloaded.
