AURORA - A crash in Aurora forced authorities to evacuate several homes and apartments Sunday morning.
A pickup truck hit a power line at Jewell and Ironton. Police said people were evacuated because they feared the structure could fall on top of homes.
About an hour later, neighbors were allowed to return back to their homes after Excel Energy crews arrived and stabilized the lines. Crews say thatafter assessing the damage, they are confident the structure was never in jeopardy of falling over. Excel says no one lost power.
"Our crews came in quickly to bring in some equipment to secure the integrity of the infrastructure while we were assessing it. We reassured customers of safety that they didn't have anything to worry about. Everything was in good shape," Jerome Davis, Regional Vice-President for Excel Energy, said.
Police say the driver, Jonathan Gibons, 34, left the scene and was located at a local hospital where he was being treated for his injuries. Gibons is being charged with DUI, hit-and-run, and careless driving.
