COLORADO SPRINGS -- The Colorado Department of Corrections plans to hold monthly roundups of offenders who have run away, according to a news release.
The announcement is part of a plan from the parole division to implement designs to enhance the apprehension of absconders in the patrol system, the release said.
This comes after it took parole staff five days to confirm Evan Ebel had absconded from parole in March. 9Wants to Know reported suspected murderer Evan Ebel took off his ankle monitor days before police say he killed two people.
An arrest warrant was issued the day after police say Ebel killed Tom Clements. Ebel's ankle monitor was taken off three days before police say he killed a father of three, Nate Leon.
The Department of Corrections previously had no policy that required parole officers to respond within a certain time frame.
It announced a new policy Tuesday.
Parole staff must respond within two hours of receiving an alert that an offender had tampered with an electronic monitoring device.
