KUSA - Eleven new homes are going up on the same block in Denver at the same time.

It is part of an effort by the 6th largest home builder in the country: Habitat for Humanity. It is a non-profit organization helping provide affordable housing, locally and around the world.

In December, Cheryl Preheim and Matt Renoux went with a group of Colorado volunteers who built houses in Haiti for victims of the earthquake.

While they were there, former President Jimmy Carter announced Denver would be the next work project. It is now well underway, with the first wall raising.

In October, President Carter and a group of celebrities, including Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, will be in Denver to help finish the Carter Work Project homes.

This weekend, you can see Cheryl and Matt's special report "From Haiti to Home." They document the trip to Haiti and how those efforts are now coming back to our community. It is on Saturday at 6 p.m. on 9NEWS.
