KUSA - From Jenji Kohan ("Weeds") and based on the best-selling memoir of the same name, "Orange is the New Black" is an entertaining, thought-provoking, funny and powerful series that shows how one woman's world is turned upside down when she serves time in prison.
Both beautiful and wickedly talented, Taylor Schilling is one of the industry's hottest young actresses. Recently, she was seen in the Academy Award-winning film Argo playing Christine Mendez, the wife of Ben Affleck's character. Earlier in 2012, she starred opposite Zac Efron in "The Lucky One" and in 2007, she starred in the NBC drama series "Mercy".
Next up, she portrays Brooklynite, Piper Chapman, a young woman whose seemingly perfect life is turned upside down when she must serve time in a federal penitentiary in the Netflix Original Series, "Orange is the New Black." Based on a true story, Schilling portrays a character based on author Piper Kerman.
The series follows engaged Brooklynite Piper Chapman (Schilling), whose decade-old relationship with drug-runner Alex (Laura Prepon, "That 70's Show")results in her arrest and year-long detention in a federal penitentiary.
To pay her debt to society, Piper must trade her comfortable New York life with fiance Larry (Jason Biggs, "American Pie") for an orange prison jumpsuit and a baffling prison culture where she is forced to question everything she believes and form unexpected new alliances with a group of eccentric and outspoken inmates.
