DENVER - Denver Nuggets starting point guard Ty Lawson was reportedly arrested on Saturday after a dispute with his pregnant girlfriend.
Lawson was charged with physical harassment and criminal mischief, according to the arrest affidavit.
Lawson and his girlfriend, Ashley Nicole Pettiford, got into a heated exchange that resulted into the two breaking each others phones.
The exchange included Pettiford reportedly overhearing Lawson on the phone with another woman. At that point, Pettiford reportedly got out of bed, got her suitcase and started gathering clothes to pack.
Lawson saw she was packing and they started arguing. She told police that he stood in the closet and would not let her pack her things.
"[Pettiford] told Lawson again she wanted to get her clothes and he grabbed her arms again and started pushing her back towards the bed," the affidavit reads. "At this point, she ended up on the bed, but she was unsure if he pushed her down on the bed or if she fell on the bed."
Pettiford said she was so mad that Lawson pushed her that she threw Lawson's phone towards the hallway wall. After she broke his phone, the affidavit says Lawson grabbed her phone and threw it against the wall also. However, Pettiford said the phone didn't break, so he "went into the bathroom with the phone and she heard running water."
When police went into the bedroom where the incident reportedly happened, the officer noticed a broken lamp shade, clothing all over the floor and a suitcase.
Pettiford was also arrested and court records show that a mandatory restraining order was issued after charges were filed to both parties.
Lawson appeared in court on Monday and was freed on $1,000 bond, according to court records.
"We are fully aware of an incident involving Ty Lawson over the weekend. Per team policy and out of respect for the legal process, we will have no further comment at this time," Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly said.
Earlier this year, Lawson was arrested for failing to appear in court in a case that involved him being charged with driving under restraint and careless driving in April 2012.
