KUSA - Kenneth Faried scored 11 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter Monday night to lead the Denver Nuggets to a 98-94 preseason win over the visiting San Antonio Spurs.
Randy Foye, who was 3-for-5 from 3-point range, and J.J. Hickson each added 15 points for the Nuggets. The fans got their first glimpse of new coach Brian Shaw as he takes over after George Karl was fired.
The Nuggets play again Tuesday night, traveling to Oklahoma City. Denver's only other home preseason game is Oct. 23 against Phoenix.
Denver opens the regular season Oct. 30 at Sacramento. The Nuggets' first home regular-season game is Nov. 1 against Portland.
The Spurs were without their three stars - Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker - who stayed home rather than make the first stop on the team's three-game trip. They will join the team in Atlanta for a game Thursday.
Kawhi Leonard led San Antonio with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Backup guard Cory Joseph had 13 points.
