Frisbees will fly at dog championship

LITTLETON - High-flying dogs with a knack for catching Frisbees will compete for the title of champion this weekend in Littleton. 

More than 60 teams of dog and handler will be on hand at Clermont Park Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the UFO World Cup Finals - Frisbee Dog World Championship. 

Colorado Disc Dogs, founded in 1994, is hosting the championship. 

The UFO World Cup Series is a worldwide points race that determines the best frisbee dog annually. The UFO was founded in 2001, and features a series of events that take place on three continents. 

The season is capped off each year by the UFO World Cup Final, where the top teams go head to head in a showcase of canine athleticism and family fun.

The event is free to watch. Action begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Saturday features a special Halloween pet costume contest, trick-or-treating, and prizes. Leashed dogs welcome. The championship will be awarded on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
