SOCHI, RUSSIA - Tuesday marks 100 days until the Winter Olympics begin in Sochi, Russia. Although that is thousands of miles from Denver, Colorado, one local man had an up close experience with the Olympic torch Sunday.

Mark Hall from Parker carried the Olympic torch in St. Petersburg, Russia on Sunday. Hall works for Visa. He was one of three Visa employees selected to carry the torch, and the only American.

"I have followed the Olympics since I was 9 years old, " Hall said. "The Olympics unites the world and being an Olympic torch runner - it is an honor to be chosen to do it."

Sochi is a city on the shore of the Black Sea, about 1,000 miles south of Moscow. 9NEWS reporters Matt Renoux and Anastasiya Bolton traveled to Russia in June to collect stories to help Colorado better understand the country.

Stories from Russia will be airing weekly in newscasts on 9NEWS leading up to the Winter Olympics.
