KUSA - A record number of students from 45 area high schools will compete in this year's JA Stock Market Challenge on Thursday and Friday from 8 to 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Cable Center on the University of Denver campus at 2000 Buchtel Blvd.

The JA Stock Market Challenge, presented by Great-West Great-Teachers, a program of Great-West Financial, is a stock market simulation game, featuring teams of high school students who compete to see who can grow their initial $500,000 investment into the largest net worth "mock" stock portfolio.

Students will apply what they have learned in the JA Take Stock in Your Future program to this fun-filled, fast-paced event, where they experience two months of simulated trading condensed into two hours of excitement. The frenetic atmosphere ensures urgent and intense trading to simulate a real trading floor, and thus guarantees a "Wall Street"-style learning experience the students will never forget.

"Through this dynamic high school program, Junior Achievement and Great-West Great-Teachers are investing in the future of tomorrow's business leaders," Christina Frantz, corporate social responsibility manager at Great-West Financial, said. "Our company's brand promise is to help our customers create bright financial futures so we understand the importance of financial literacy. Programs like the JA Stock Market Challenge equip young people with the skills they need to achieve their financial goals."
